Description

It is important for your Mercedes to start right every time without fail. If you turn the key in the ignition, and the car only starts half the time it may be time to replace the ignition control unit. Your ignition system includes two main electrical systems, one of which operates with a low voltage and the other with a high voltage. The low-voltage system is based on the battery current and mainly includes the breaker points and ignition switch. The high-voltage system includes the other components, including the secondary coil windings, the coil wire, the distributor cap and rotor, and the spark plugs. The heart of the system is the distributor, which turns on and off the primary electrical current in order to ensure that each spark plug receives the spark it needs. Additionally, the ignition control unit is a key player in the process, ensuring that all the components work together successfully.
